Praise the Maker!

There is a new restaurant in town and it’s taking no prisoners…a full-on, unique food experience in the greater Charleston area. No southern food here. No farm-to-table items on the menu. Instead it’s been replaced by a little Aloha right out at our own little surfing haven in the area, Folly Beach. I can’t say that I am disappointed either.

Y’all…I am so inspired by Wiki Wiki Sandbar…it’s not even funny .

It’s new. It’s different. And it’s gonna take over Folly this summer. MARK MY WORDS. Or don’t. Because, I really don’t know. But I know I will be there.

Hanging out with my favorite foodies – The Tastemakers – a few weeks ago, I headed to Wiki Wiki to see what the buzz was all about. Besides the AMAZING architecture and mega cool island vibe going on, this place is chock full of tropical, Hawaiian themes and quirky little details that will entertain everyone. And I am all about a theme.

Hello! Foodies…Good to see you two!

One of my favorite things at Wiki Wiki and what will keep me coming back for more was the cocktail experience. Experience is putting it lightly. Each fancy cocktail comes with 2 prices. A regular price (boring) and a take home your fancy glass price (squeeeee). Honestly, I can’t wait to go back JUST so I can sample each tropical cocktail and take home all the ceramic mugs. Not only do I love a good cocktail, but I love collecting things. ESPECIALLY THEMED FOOD THINGS!

With drinks like The Suffering Bastard, (named after everyone that had way too much fun on Folly), The Three Hour Tour, and the Hello Dr. Jones, you know it’s gonna be a fun night. Not to be missed, the massive (and share worthy) Rum, Joe Rum.

And the food…man, the FOOD! There is so much to enjoy here that it would take multiple trips to this place to get it all in (May I suggest a date with yours truly). There are classics like the Pu Pu Platter with a little bit of everything for everyone at the table, The Crab Rangoons – a blue crab & citrus cream cheese fried dumpling served with tiki sauce, and the not to be missed SPAM sliders. Seriously. A whole new world opened up for me when I discovered this old church supper mystery meat from the 70s. Who knew???

They also have everything from salads to sandwiches, platters to poke bowls. It’s a feast for everyone. Some of my favorites were the Tuna Poke Bowl (for my healthy side), the Spammy Sammy (aloha to you, sexy beast) and the cure for anything that ails you…The Loco Moco – chopped steak over steamed Charleston gold rice with beef gravy, sunny side egg & fried shallots with macaroni salad & tossed mixed greens. Come to momma.

Not only is the food yummy here at Wiki Wiki, but the atmosphere and the Folly-meets-Hawaii vibe that they are putting out is like a party every day. And that’s something I can get on my long board for….
