Our “squadra” had the chance to dine at the highly anticipated and newly-opened Italian restaurant, Legami, known for its “epic” fare and coastal Mediterranean ambiance. Familia-owned Legami instantly made us feel like part of the family, and in true Italian fashion, they wouldn’t let us leave hungry.

From the moment we stepped through the doors, we were transported; the warm lighting, moody atmosphere and stylish décor immediately set the scene for an unforgettable evening. We kicked things off with two signature cocktails that perfectly set the tone for the night: the Venetian Spritz, with Valencia orange, rosemary and Prosecco and the Amuse Me, with vodka, tomato, white balsamic, pepper and Prosecco, topped with a fresh oyster.

Everything was served family-style, giving us the chance to sample a variety of flavors. For appetizers, or piattini (meaning “little plates”), we enjoyed an assortment of fresh and inventive bites. The Burrata, served with pistachio salsa verde, zucchini scapece and lemon alongside warm focaccia, was creamy and tangy with the perfect touch of brightness. The Beef Tartare, seasoned with capers, pickles, marinated onions, honey mustard zabaione and cured egg yolk butter was an instant favorite. The George Bank Scallops arrived perfectly seared, resting atop roasted corn sauce with sundried tomatoes, almond pesto and a hint of truffle butter. The Shrimp and Caviar dish was inventive yet delicious: spaghetti made from shrimp topped with a lemon-vanilla sauce, chili and caviar.

For the pasta (or “paste”) course, we savored Bottoni, filled with butternut squash, parmesan cream, brown butter and sage, and Ravioli filled with ricotta and served with tomato, 24-month Parmigiano Reggiano and fresh basil.

The entrees (or “piatti”) continued the flavor journey. On the seafood side, the Lobster Risotto, featuring poached lobster atop a creamy, saffron-infused risotto, was comforting yet elevated, and the Pan-Seared Grouper, served with a white wine leek sauce, salmon caviar, marinated Moscato grapes and tender asparagus, was a harmonious blend of delicate seafood flavors and subtle sweetness. On the land side, the Mediterranean Lamb, seasoned with lemon, mint and pecorino and finished with a white wine sauce alongside crispy giudia baby artichokes, was aromatic and perfectly balanced, and the Duck Breast, paired with wildberry sauce, cauliflower purée, and mustard emulsion, was rich and flavorful, with a masterful balance of savory and slightly sweet notes.

Legami is generously donating $1 from every Venetian Spritz sold from January 28 - February 28 to Charleston Hope, supporting its mental and behavioral health initiatives.
