Firefly Distillery

On April 1, we met up at Firefly Distillery for a distillery tour and tasting, and every step and sip lived up to our expectations. We got the chance to waltz through the gorgeous, newly constructed space (which opened in Feb. 2020) with drinks in hand. From the impressive four-sided bar in the Tasting Room and breathtaking rustic private event spaces, to the sprawling back lawn and the shiny distillery itself, it was hard to know where to look! Many of the materials used to build the massive barn-inspired space were taken from their old spot, purchased from local craftsmen, or brought in from an old local barn, which made the Distillery even more charming. Firefly’s Tasting Room Manager Mikell + his wife and Events Manager Sara were just as fun as they were knowledgeable, and made every piece of history + detail about Firefly’s current operations compelling.

Our tasting commenced in the “Master Distiller’s Room”, frequently utilized as a green room for concerts, as well as a meeting room for staff. Each seat had a row of cute little Firefly glasses placed on a holder made from a repurposed aging barrel. Dangerously appetizing (and NEW) charcuterie boards also graced the table. A winning combo if you ask us! For each round of tastings, every guest was offered the choice between two liquors. We tried the Mint Sweet Tea Vodka, Java Rum, Bourbon Ball Whiskey, Peach Moonshine, Banana Pudding Dessert Liquor, and more. I could taste the quality and intention in each bottle. Am I allowed to say they were all my favorite? We got to hear in-depth flavor descriptions, a rundown of ingredients, cocktail suggestions and the answer to just about any question you could think up.

I left with a huge smile on my face, a bottle in hand, and the strong urge to bring my girlfriends in ASAP.

As part of our Charity Partnership Program, Firefly agreed to donate $1 from every Sweet Tea Vodka and Sweet Tea Whiskey sold during April to Windwood Farm to recognize National Childhood Abuse Prevention Month. Windwood Farm is a 110-acre residential treatment facility in Awendaw for South Carolina boys ages 6-16 that have been abused and/or neglected. While the boys are at the farm, they receive therapy, education through the on-campus Charleston County School, recreational therapy, individual and family therapy, medical care, and experiential learning opportunities.
