Ma’am Saab

As soon as we found out Ma’am Saab (one of only two Pakistani restaurants in South Carolina, along with sister concept Malika Canteen) started offering lunch in addition to their killer dinner service, we knew a midday meetup was in order.

Ma’am Saab is worth a visit just for their cocktail menu alone. Each drink can be customized with liquor, Delta-9 or alcohol-free spirits. The Rang-E-Bahar with tequila, mezcal, rose and eggless foam was as tasty as it was beautiful. The Junglee Janwar was a surprising combination of vermouth, watermelon, organic bone broth, honey, gin and ghee.

Our appetizers were full of flavor and perfect for sharing. The Dahi Puri looked almost too good to eat (almost): round crispy puris filled with potatoes, yogurt and chutney. Shakkar Kandi Chaat, our charity giveback item, was the ideal combination of sweet and savory with sweet potatoes, black salt and cilantro. The perfectly fried Chicken Pakoras were a crowd pleaser, aka chicken bites with curry leaves, serrano peppers and green chutney.

For our main courses, we enjoyed the Signature Thali, which can be paired with a choice of Butter Chicken, Saag Paneer (spinach and cheese, Tawa Qeema (ground beef) or Lahori Cholay (curried chickpeas). It wouldn’t be lunch without a few handheld options, and the Ma’am Saab Burger, a spiced ground beef patty topped with secret sauce, and the Kabab Roll, lamb chapli wrapped in buttered naan, both fit the bill.

Ma’am Saab is generously donating $1 from each Shakkar Kandi Chaat from their lunch menu and Masala Bhel from their dinner menu sold from September 15 - October 15 to our nonprofit partner for Q3, The Parkinson’s Foundation Carolinas Chapter, which serves the 36,000+ people living with Parkinson’s in the Carolinas by funding research grants, improving patient care and offering educational programs.
